Wine Refrigerator

A wine refrigerator is a great way to keep your favorite vintages at an ideal temperature. Some people prefer to store their wines in a standard refrigerator. While this works, it is not as effective or functional as an actual wine refrigerator. If you are serious about wine, then perhaps it is time to invest in a cooler that is designed specifically for this popular beverage. Wine storage can be rather involved, much more so than storing a few sodas.

What is a Wine Refrigerator?

A wine refrigerator is essentially a cold storage appliance designed specifically for wine. Each model comes with its own list of features, and some more expensive units come with many handy functions to preserve and chill wine. Wine refrigerators also tend to be smaller than standard upright models. The shelves included are often built to accommodate many bottles laying on their side rather than upright. Current wine refrigerator models are very diverse and offer not just functionality, but a unique look that is suitable for many different styles.

Benefits of a Wine Refrigerator

A while refrigerator is created specifically for bottles of wine. This makes the appliance much more specialized. Of course there is a downside to such specialization. Most wine refrigerators do not include typical flat shelves or crisper drawers, so they can really only be used to store bottles.  This is great for a wine enthusiast, but may be less appealing for someone who prefers the flexibility that a compact or mid sized refrigerator could offer.

Many wine refrigerator models have been outfitted with state of the art technology that is designed to preserve as well as store wine. Most serious wine collectors have at least one or two wine refrigerators in their homes. Even if you are only a casual wine drinker, a wine refrigerator is ideal for keeping beverages ready for guests. Some can accommodate varying bottle sizes and could be used for other purposes beyond wine storage.

Does Your Home Need a Wine Refrigerator?

Whether or not you need a wine refrigerator really depends on how often you store wine. If you are a true enthusiast, then a wine refrigerator is a must. You can purchase one with a larger capacity or several, depending on the size of your collection. For the beginner wine enthusiast, many manufacturers offer a smaller unit that can accommodate a smaller number of bottles. There are even single bottle wine refrigerators that can easily fit on counter tops or other stable surfaces.

If you do not store wine often, then you may be better off with a mini refrigerator. The other option is to purchase a wine refrigerator that is also able to hold other types of bottles. Most are not suited for cans, but there are beverage coolers that can handle both.  Make sure the unit you choose is as flexible as you need it to be.

Features of the Wine Refrigerator

The features that come with a wine refrigerator are not exactly the same as those that come with upright or other standard units. Most wine refrigerators are smaller, and may not have the same lighting. There are also models that feature a clear glass door on the front so that the bottles are visible. This is great for anyone who wants to really show off their wine collection. Other models feature a solid door with numerous color options, including the typical white, chrome, or black. If you wish to invest in a more expensive model, then additional features, including humidity control, may be available.
